And 'mid-January - Do You Know Where Are the intentions?
Hard to believe we're two weeks into the new year. As you step with your business purpose? For some of us, the resolutions that we have done recently, are already only a memory, having been "hijacked" by other pressing issues. More of us are struggling to make good our intentions, but could be achieved by expecting too much of ourselves too quickly (ie I blog every day ...) and we must find a way to make our resolutions "stick" to the long haul.
Just as we do to stay in control with our resolutions, so in 2011, we're not just picking up the same as we lowered this year? Here are some tips to turn your good intentions into good habits, so by December, six miles ahead of where you are now.
1. Trace your path. Write your action steps down, and the calendar to make it a priority. So if on Monday morning usually does not begin with the time schedule tailored to the week, you must book with you that the time to make it happen. Book extra time each month for check-in simply by themselves, to re-evaluate your goals and assess what works and what is not. You might consider carving out time in a Friday afternoon or another time "down" during the week when you know you have a little 'breathing.
2. Take small steps. Do not be put off by biting off more than you can chew. Marathon runners do not start running 26.2 miles a day. Give yourself some 'flexibility and set small weekly goals, at least for the first few weeks, working up to your larger goal. So, perhaps it is not reasonable to blog every day, but finding two or three times a week is comfortable. Start there.
3. Make it a habit. Whatever the scope of your resolution, make a concerted effort to stick with your plan for three weeks solid. Research shows that it takes so long to develop the habit. It can be difficult at first, but it is likely that after three weeks, your daily action steps just came naturally.
4. Ask for help. You must not do it alone! Considered private or group lessons. Or make a deal with a friend or colleague to help each other stay accountable and prevent relapse. Check-in once a month and make a promise to be brutally honest!
Do not let go in January with no action taken on your goals for 2010. Trace a path, start small and stick with it, so that when the new year arrives again, you can look back this year, after reaching your goals and set your sights even higher in 2011, however to turn the wheels! ......
