Psychologists: How to choose a good one to try therapy?

It is increasingly common to hear people close to us have been talking to a psychologist or at least to need psychotherapy to help them solve a problem. In the same way as with other professions such as doctors for example, every psychologist has had several years of study and preparation, specializing in one or more areas of what is known as clinical psychology as psychotherapy.

However, it is important to know that not all psychologists can serve all types of cases and patient's self as a psychologist to choose from depending on a single factor, but crucial in the process of therapy: the affinity personally feel towards a particular psychologist.

This may seem like much, but in a serious process of psychotherapy there are many elements which, if properly used, help the therapy the patient is willing to yield, one of them is the "transfer" and a "countertransference" simple words that refer to all those beliefs and thoughts we put in another person, for example, when someone at first sight why we like or dislike us for that.

So to choose a psychologist is very important to feel good about that person, to trust in him or her, so that the psychotherapeutic process can get to deeper places.

Fortunately, in Mexico, Federal District (DF for short) are professional psychologists of all streams, so it is sure we can find someone with whom we feel confident to open delicate episodes of our lives, knowing they will be treated with respect and confidentiality.

Among the mainstream of clinical psychology are, of course, psychoanalysis, Gestalt therapy, systemic therapy and body psychotherapy and many others. However, it is well known that the first one, whose creator is the famous Sigmund Freud, has the problem of being very slow (several years), and does not always solve the root problems.

For this reason, students of Freud developed new methods such as Gestalt Psychotherapy or Body Psychotherapy, both great tools to go deeper into the unconscious of the person and in a much shorter time, which results in clear changes in problem areas .

In summary, it is important to feel comfortable and confident with the psychotherapist or psychologist who is chosen, and it is very advisable to have a first date in which one can see and feel the workspace of the therapist, his personality and his way work, so we feel confident to talk about that sometimes hurts us makes us angry or sad for us, for the more honest we are with ourselves, the better the results achieved in psychotherapy.
